A care home that had consistently improved its ratings over several years, moving from "Requires Improvement" to "Good," was striving to achieve an "Outstanding" rating. The most recent inspection resulted in a draft report with ratings of "Good" in four categories and "Outstanding" in the "Caring" category. Determined to elevate their overall rating, the head of governance and quality, along with the registered manager, drafted their factual accuracy response and sought expert advice from Errol Archer and his team.
Upon reviewing both the draft inspection report and the initial factual accuracy response, Errol Archer conducted a strategic meeting with the care home provider. The overwhelmingly positive report highlighted that the home was “exceptionally well led.” Archer’s team advised the provider to concentrate on the "Well Led" category and to explore additional evidence in the "Responsive" and "Safe" categories.
Through detailed analysis and collaboration, the team identified further relevant evidence, particularly emphasising the "Well Led" category. This focused approach allowed them to present a compelling case for a higher rating.
After the CQC reviewed the factual accuracy response, they revised the narrative to include more examples of outstanding service. Consequently, the rating for the "Well Led" category was elevated from "Good" to "Outstanding." With two categories now rated as "Outstanding" and the remaining categories rated as "Good," the care home achieved an overall "Outstanding" rating.
